Noted aerospace journalist Steven Trimble’s DEW line blog carries some fascinating and contrasting video of aerial refueling tankers in action. At the top, the Australian Multirole Tanker Transport (MRTT); the A330 based aircraft that is most similar to the KC-45 Northrop Grumman has developed to offer the Air Force, if the competition is fair. It’s live action video of the worlds most modern and capable refueling tanker at work, refueling F-16 and F-18 fighter aircraft in flight.

Right below that is the competitor’s tanker – or, shall we say, tanker cartoons of what one day might be developed for the Air Force. Enough said.

Scroll down to see an incredible photograph of the Australian A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport performing what KC-45 partner EADS North America says the “first simultaneous fuel transfer with its all-digital hose-and-drouge system, fueling two fighter aircraft at the same time.”

The photograph is simply stunning and, as EADS North America Chairman Ralph D. Crosby, Jr. put it, “This latest program success is further evidence that the A330 MRTT is ready to meet the demanding operational requirements of next-generation military tankers, including those of the U.S. Air Force as part of the Northrop Grumman KC-45 team.”
